The fabrication process is a process that one needs to know about when you are planning to give the order for a new countertop. It is a lengthy process if your fabricator is not using a CNC machine for fabricating the countertop.
So we will be telling you about every process that takes place from starting to end.
After you have decided your countertop material and where faucet holes, sinks and cook top are to be placed, it’s time to make a template.
In this measurement are taken of anything that needs the slab to be cut and a design is made. It includes the edges also and a final layout is made to shown the owner for finalizing the whole process.
The CNC processes starts by laying the templates on the digitizing table where the exact dimensions are measured and saved in a Computer Assisted Design (CAD) program.
Templates are laid on the stone that is chosen and and a saw cuts all the holes and edges. Different saws are used for different type of cuttings. Every company uses different cutting methods, like some use saws whereas some use water jets.
This process uses a CNC (Computer Numeric Control) machine which reduces the cutting time. In this a digital technology is used to control the fabricating machines like saws, polishers and routers. It can easily do any complex edge and save time.
The rest of the specifications like, where holes are to be made for sinks, cooktops and faucets are mentioned. The CNC machine process all the information and shows the location of seams, after that the stone is finally cut in accurate dimensions.
The cut pieces are then forwarded to the next part where they are lifted with the help of vacuum. They are then laid down again for makingand polishing the edges, cutting the slab for under mount sinks and cooktops. With the help of drills, holes are made for faucets.
CNC machine has a set of Z polishing tools which makes the surface of the seams smooth thereby making the seams visible as less as possible.
This process is important as there are joints in a slab and these joints are visible when two slabs are joined together.
The slabs are then moved forward for polishing towards polishing machine. Here the polishing pads grinds the surface of the slab to the desired polishing finish.
Latest machines have laser eyes, which detects that whether the desired finish has been achieved or not. After this an edge polishing machine is used to give a finish to the edges.
After the fabrication process is done the slabs are checked if any further improvements are needed. Such as polishing quality, taking care of the sharp edges and checking that whether the edges are of desired quality or not.
Once everything is checked, then the installation team places the granite for transportation and reaches home for installing the countertop slab.
